Our Story

I Spent Years Building Other People's Businesses.
Then I Decided to Build My Own.

This is the long version of how The Marketette came to be, told the way it actually happened.

How We Got Here

Fifteen-plus years, one skill leading to the next.

2010 Working from home. English teacher, data encoder.

Design Enters Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom.
Canva Arrives Makes everyone's life easier. LOL.
Scope Expands Sales, social, video, websites, email, automation.
Now AI-assisted content and workflows.
2026 The Marketette is founded.

I Started From Home, Long Before That Was Normal

I started working from home in 2010. Back then, saying you worked from home almost sounded like a joke. It wasn't considered a "real profession" the way it is today.

I started as an English teacher and data encoder. Nothing glamorous. But one job led to another, and more importantly, one skill led to another.

I got into blog writing and started learning SEO. And SEO back then? Very different. Keywords were everything. Put the right keyword in a blog enough times and somehow Google loved you for it. Try doing that today. LOL.

But that's one of the things I've always loved about digital marketing. It never stays the same.

I Just Kept Learning

Writing led me to SEO. SEO introduced me to more of the marketing side of a business. Then there was graphic design.

I started with Adobe Photoshop. Then Illustrator, which I especially enjoyed because I've always loved to draw. Lightroom came next for photo editing. Then Canva showed up and made everyone's life easier. LOL.

Over the years, my work expanded into administration, sales, customer service, social media management, content creation, graphic design, video editing, websites, email marketing, SEO, automation, and eventually AI-assisted content and workflows.

Some of the tools I used heavily years ago aren't even relevant anymore. Others have completely changed. That's the job.

You learn. You adapt. And then just when you think you've figured something out, the algorithm changes again.

Somewhere Along the Way, I Fell in Love With Marketing

Marketing is difficult because there isn't one formula that works forever. What worked five years ago may not work today. What works for one business might completely fail for another.

And weirdly enough, that's exactly what I enjoy about it. You have to pay attention. You have to understand the business, the customer, the platform, the numbers, and what people are actually responding to. Then you test. Learn. Adjust. And do it again.

I've watched digital marketing evolve for more than a decade, and I've had to evolve with it.

I don't think expertise means knowing everything. Especially in this industry, that's almost impossible. For me, it means having enough experience to know what you're looking at, knowing when something has changed, and being willing to keep learning when it does.

Then I Realized Something

For years, I had been helping other people build their businesses. I helped with their marketing. Their content. Their websites. Their graphics. Their systems. Their customers. I learned new skills because their businesses needed them.

But I had never really tried to build something that was mine.

The Marketette started when I finally decided to change that. I wanted to take everything I'd learned from years of working behind other businesses and build something of my own.

Not an agency pretending to have some secret formula. A company built around what I've actually learned from doing the work: keep learning, pay attention to what works, adapt when it stops working, and never stop looking for a better way to do things.

That's The Marketette. And we're still learning.
